Assume that your organization is planning to have an automated server room that functions without human assistance. Such a room is often call a lights-out server rom. Describe the fire control system(s) you would install in that room.

 

I would install a thermal detection system, smoke detection system and flame detection system.

Thermal detection system:

This system is a heat sensor. If the heat rises above the possible one then it will sprinkle dry chemical in the room to control the temperature.

 

Smoke detection system:

This system works by taking in the air which contains a laser beam. If the laser beam is diverted by the smoke particles then the system will be activated.

 

Flame detection system:

It checks the infrared or ultraviolet light produced by an open flame. If the system detects the flame then the dry chemical is sprinkled rather than water.

 

 

Assume that you have converted an area of general office space into a server room. Describe the factors you would consider for each of the following.

a.     Walls and door:

Cipher lock, card keys for the doors, man traps and biometric keys so that there won’t be forced entrance by the burglars.

b.     Physical access control

Security guards should be placed 24hrs in the entrance and there should be cameras and monitors.

c.     Fine detection”

Thermal detection, flame detection and smoke detection should be included.

d.     Fire suppression:

We can use water, dry chemicals or different types of things to avoid the types of fines.

e.     Heating ventilating and air conditioning:

There should b cooling system which maintains the temperature or a humidifier.

f.      Power quality and distribution:

Emergency power shut off, lightning, replacement server should be in the room.

 

 

Assume you have been asked to review the power needs of a stand-alone computer system that processes important but not critical data. Although the system does not have to be online at all times, it stores valuable data that could be corrupted if the power system were suddenly interrupted. Which UPS features are most important to such a system? Which type of UPS do you recommend for it?

 

The offline UPS leads to a lot of problems because the response time is less. Even if we go for three online UPS, it is very efficient but the major problem is very expensive. UPS is recommended because of the cost, their response time, power conditioning.

 

Using a floor plan from a building you are familiar with, design an electronic monitoring plan that includes closed-circuit television, burglar alarms with appropriate sensors, fire detectors and suppression and access controls for key entrances.

 

Electronic monitoring plan:
there should be a CCTV placed in a secure corner of the room. The security people should constantly check the CCTV.

Alarms and alarm systems:
the alarms and alarm systems should be constantly checked to avoid the physical threats like fire, a break-in or intrusion, an envision mental disturbance such as flooding or an interruption in services such as a loss of power.

 

Fire detectors and fire suppression system
they must have thermal detectors. The system is activated and fire suppression system which consists of water sprinkler, dry chemical and halon system.

 

Physical access control keys:

There should be card keys for building and entrance to work area and 24hrs guards at all entrances and exits.

 

Search the web for a UPS that provides the wattage necessary to run the systems described in Exercise 5 for at least 15 minutes during a power outage

 

When I searched on the web, I found out that 200 VA hours will support 800 watts for 15 mins. 240, 300, 330 VA hours are the minimum units for UPS.
