Introduction: Extend Your Knowledge

Besides the web programming languages talked about in the book, there are many more languages out there for web programming. The three most popular are JavaScript, HTML and CSS. JavaScript is used to add client-side behavior to HTML pages making them Dynamic HTML. A use of this would be to use a function on a page without actually leaving that page; basically having an active user interface within the page. This is also used when transmitting information about user habits and actions. A good example of JavaScript is Gmail. Next we have CSS, which is Cascading Style Sheets. These are used to manipulate the aesthetics of a site. What CSS deals with mostly is layout, colors, and fonts. Without CSS most visually engaging websites would not be possible.
