Case Exercises

1.  What questions should Iris ask Charlie about the new job, Kelvin’s team, and the future of the company?

-      What is like being a IS position? How is the pay? Benefits? Days per week? How many others to work with? How often do we have to promote awareness, provide training and other sort of stuff? Training for the position? Difficult of projects?

2.  What questions should Iris ask Kelvin about the new job?

-      What tasks will I be performing? Who are good people to ask questions? Whose are people that are slightly better at certain tasks and who knows more people? Training for being the center of attention of that meeting.

Ethical Decision Making

Suppose that Iris and Kelvin were involved in a romantic relationship, unknown to anyone else in the company. Such a relationship is not against company policy, but married employees are specifically prohibited from being in a direct reporting relationship with each other.

1.  Should Iris inform Charlie about her relationship with Kelvin if she does not plan to apply for the transfer?

-      No, Iris doesn’t have to tell Charlie about the relationship, but could be a morally right thing to do.

2.  If she does apply for the job, but has no current plans for marriage, should she inform Charlie of her relationship?

-      Yes, as this could be bad because of the direct reporting relationship and could cause problems down the road as he could give her more freedom of stuff. One example is house remodelers a couple was married and the wife always asked for the easier houses and the harder for the husband and soon later divorced.
