Case Study Questions

1.      When compared to traditional desktop customers, why are mobile phone uses much more likely to book a room or airline reservation for the same day?

Because the convenience of it especially for those who likes to travel light with only their mobile devices. Also , the facility of booking a room with mobile phone or airline reservation on the same day is important for free travelers who like wandering from country to country. People can be sure that can make it without wasting the payment.

 

2.      In the mobile design project of 2011, why did Orbitz management decide to construct a mobile Web site for corporate users rather than a native app?

Because business travelers already were using items such as smart phone, and felt that the mobile web site was more beneficially.

 

3.      Why has Orbitz decided to go with native apps for each mobile platform (iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire) instead of a single mobile Web site as it did with the Orbitz for Business mobile site?

Native apps are faster than traditional HTML code, and probably faster than HTML5, which requires a rendering engine to construct mobile Web pages. The native apps can perform all the functions of an HTML5 or desktop version of the reservation system, but execute much faster.

 

4.      What issues does syncing recent user searches across devices pose?

Privacy is one of the primary issues posed by Orbitz’s ability to sync recent user searches across devices.

The costs for system maintenance for an e-commerce Web site, can run anywhere from 50% to 100, per year, of the original systems development costs. For small sites the annual maintenance cost can parallel the development costs, with larger sites achieving some economies of scale.

10. Why is Web server bandwidth an important issue for e-commerce sites?

The increase bandwidth can help speed up page delivery in optimizing website performance.

15. What are some of the policies e-commerce businesses must develop before launching a site, and why must they be developed?

A few policies e-commerce businesses must develop before launching a site are a privacy policy which is a set of public statements declaring to your customers how you treat their personal information that you gather on the site and accessibility rules which are a set of design objectives that ensure disabled users can effectively access your site.

20. How does responsive Web design differ from adaptive Web delivery?

For responsive Web design, no matter how much you resize the screen, that same layout will automatically respond to that size. Responsive websites generally work well for content-heavy websites with not a lot of difference in user intent between mobile users and desktop users, and fairly simple functionality
