CH7 Projects: Question 1

 

The first company I chose is McDonalds. Currently McDonalds has 6 social medias: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr and Spotify. McDonald’s Facebook page has 79M followers, but their Instagram page has only 3.5M. Their website shows different promotions and deals. One of their current deals is $5 off first order for new Uber Eats users. The website has a mobile version for those accessing it from their phones. Also, McDonalds has mobile app that also has different promotions and coupons that can be used in stores. They implemented “mobile order & pay” so a customer can order from their phone and pick it up at the desired time. McDonalds doesn’t do a good job for social media marketing, nor should they. They should promote their deals through Instagram since it is the biggest social media out there.

Second company I chose Burger King as one of the McDonald’s competitors. In my opinion Burger King does a better advertisement job even though they use only 3 social medias: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Their Instagram page is more appealing, and they show their new burgers and products more as opposed to McDonald’s Instagram page. BK also have an easy to use mobile app with “secret” coupons and deals. In my opinions the strategy for “secret” coupons and deals is a great way to attract more customers. They also have mobile ordering for convenience.

Overall, I like BK’s marketing more which they must have because McDonalds is much more recognized and popular. McDonalds can get away with less marketing effort and still dominate the fast food industry.
