The first smartphones were introduced by blackberry with the query keypad with email sending options which got immense traction in business operations. the mode communication was just under fingertip.
The touch screen mobile was introduced commercially by IPhone with the rich graphical user experience. The use of query keypad is totally eliminated. Moreover IPhone also gave the features of IPods by letting to seamless audio and video content.
Enter google, The android operating system was introduced by google in the year 2011 to the smartphones. The android phones gained tremendous momentum and have the highest market share. Google also brought google maps in smartphones, chrome browser, swipe keyboards. Etc. Also it borrowed many features similar to IPhone in much lesser cost. The android phone became popular with Samsung galaxy and Motorola series.
The Nokia also brought in their smartphone using windows mobile operating system, but did not gain any popularity to gain the customer satisfaction and stopped manufacturing the windows mobile.
The year 2016-2017 was most competitive years for the smartphone market. Many Chinese companies rolled out their most competitive product with rich user experience equivalent to higher and android and IPhone. The Oppo company came up with duel front end camera, with 4200 mAh battery, with extensive internal storage and The company Xiomi released it Mi mobiles with most of the features with extremely lower price with more quality. These mobiles supported 3G mobile network also.
With advent of 4G LTE technology in the year 2017 the smartphone market offered supporting devices to perform video calling, conferencing capabilities. Most of the lastest android operating systems and IPhones ramped their support to cope up 4G LTE era.
The year 2018-2019 the IPhone rolled up IPhone 7 with various size variants with dock enabled charging, Bluetooth earbuds, micro USB and C-type chargers, Finger print sensors. It also introduced apple pay which enables easy online payments for making day to day transactions. This allowed new standard for other mobile platforms to follow and forced to offer new trend change in smartphone technology and the lastest was IPhone 8 with Lidar sensors helps in envisioning augmented reality, it has also come up with wireless charging technology. Parallelly the Android variants like OnePlus has become dominating smartphone with the premium segment offering facial recognition to authenticate user and finger print sensors.
The future of smartphone beyond 2020 would be adoptability for 5G technologies which offers high speed, uploads downloads, seamless streaming by consuming very less power consumption and high signal strength. There would be more work on augmented and virtual reality. The day may come the smartphone can over take the laptop and desktops which will be preferred by most of the smartphone users around the world.
