1. Research information about the best social media options for a food bank.
The best social media options for a food bank are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, and Instagram. Other social media sites like Snapchat, Myspace, Tumblr, or Flickr. Snapchat does not have the target public that a food bank appeals to, plus the service that snapchat provides would not be useful as other features of different social media sites. Myspace is focused for music, and Tumblr and Flickr does not have a big number of users if compared to the top social media sites.
2. Determine the top three social media options
The top three social media options are Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
3. Explain why the food bank should use your recommended social media options.
Facebook: It is the social media site with more users in the world. Just for that reason, it should be one of the best options for a food bank. Also, the average age of its users is higher compared to other media sites; someone with an income is more willing to help than a college, highs school, or middle school student. In addition, it is easy to create a page, update its content, create events, and share information with the public.
Instagram: It offer less services than Facebook, but it is the second media platform with the highest number of users. Also, since it only allows to post something when including a photo or a video, post can be also shared on Facebook. Instagram would help to connect with younger generations too.
YouTube: Creating videos that should the impact of the food bank donations made by donors can be a great way to connect and demonstrate how valuable the help of the donors is. Also, it can help to connect to a different public.
4. Provide a list of pros and cons for each social media site that you recommended.
Facebook: pros: Number of users, easy to use, public that can be targeted. Cons: time consuming, repetitive posts.
Instagram: pros: it helps to connect with a younger public, can be connected with Facebook. Cons: If you donít followers, the only way to be visible is paying to sponsor the post.
YouTube: visual content is more appealing than a post, can make some money because of the ad. Cons: time consuming, low number of posts or views.
